Sotelix Secures $1.7M to Drive Innovations in Therapeutic Endoscopy

Sotelix Endoscopy, a Baltimore-based startup founded in March 2024, has raised $1.7 million to advance the development and in vivo testing of its innovative therapeutic endoscopy devices. The funding round, backed by individual investors and experts from clinical, technical, and business domains, underscores confidence in the company’s vision. Sotelix aims to revolutionize gastrointestinal (GI) procedures with minimally invasive, incision-free tools that promise faster recovery and reduced scarring for patients. Spearheading the company’s mission is Dr. Mouen Khashab, a renowned professor of medicine at Johns Hopkins University (JHU) and a leader in therapeutic endoscopy, with over 575 publications and multiple patents to his name.

The Sotelix leadership team includes co-founder Dr. Venkata Akshintala, entrepreneur Mohamad Khachab as chairman, and CEO John Schellhorn. Dr. Khashab expressed the company’s commitment to advancing therapeutic endoscopy by creating essential tools for improved GI care. This funding comes amid a dynamic market, as the global endoscopy devices sector is projected to grow from $15.76 billion in 2023 to $28.94 billion by 2033, according to GlobalData. The endoscopy field has recently witnessed significant activity, including acquisitions by Swedish company Alleima and Medtronic, signaling a robust growth trajectory.
