J&J Appoints Shawn Millerick to Lead Vision Care Unit

Johnson & Johnson has named Shawn Millerick as the president of its vision care unit for North and Latin America, where he will define strategy and drive growth for products like Acuvue contact lenses. Millerick brings experience from Abbott and Alcon, where he led strategy and new ventures in the U.S. contact lens market and worked on pediatric nutrition. After a stint at The New England Consulting Group, Millerick returns to the vision sector at a critical time, as J&J’s vision care business reported year-over-year sales growth of 3.5% in the third quarter following declines earlier in the year.

The third-quarter growth, which raised sales to $1.3 billion, was driven by strategic price adjustments that boosted contact lens sales by 4.7%. However, J&J’s surgical vision business grew more modestly at 1.3%, with challenges in volume-based procurement in China and market softness in the U.S. To support its vision care operations, J&J also expanded Erin Powers’ role to include leadership of the surgical vision business in the U.S. and Canada. These changes reflect J&J’s efforts to solidify leadership and optimize performance in its medtech segment.
