A recent study on BrainSpec Core, an AI-powered magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) platform, found that it identified previously undetected injuries in 90% of participants with a history of traumatic brain injury (TBI). BrainSpec’s platform, FDA-cleared in November 2023, uses MRS to assess subtle brain chemistry changes that traditional imaging often misses, especially in mild TBI cases.
In a study at Washington University School of Medicine, researchers examined 65 individuals with mild TBI histories and found that BrainSpec detected at least one neurometabolite indicative of tissue damage in 90% of cases. Published in BMC Neurology, the findings underscore the value of combining standard imaging with quantitative MR techniques for enhanced TBI evaluation. BrainSpec CEO Alexandra Zimmerman emphasized the platform’s role in improving diagnostic insights through AI-powered neuroimaging.
